Here's why I strongly advocate for the implementation of Rapid Prototyping and Usability Testing in organizations. Within the vast realm of UX and Research, this method align with my belief in delivering optimal value using a simple process.
💨 1. Make it a dirty, cheap and rapid hypothesis validation process
Without the need for a complex process, you can create a Hypothesis Matrix with the questions and draft a script. Additionally, if you have users available for research, it's advisable not to rush into creating the perfect script immediately. Instead, refine it as you progress through interview rounds and gain insights into which questions are the most critical.
🛤️ 2. Enact a concise method to pave the way for further research opportunities
Considering that many companies do not conduct UX research, usability testing can serve as an excellent starting point to gather valuable feedback that can be swiftly integrated into a prototype for subsequent testing. The options for prototype testing are often underestimated. You can effectively test a simple sketch on paper or a wireframe, which can yield conclusive insights. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of options, whether it's lo-fi prototypes, high-fidelity ones, or even the production-ready piece itself.
📊 3. Develop assessments that have been validated by users for their effectiveness potential
In addition to the rapid iterations that you can consistently make on the prototype within the continuous cycle of testing, you will likely uncover additional issues and user desires related to a specific product or feature. These can then be transformed into further assessments and hypotheses for testing. Having insights originate from users themselves, rather than solely relying on the opinions of team members who may have a biased perspective on design.

Fortunately, you don't require an extensive tech stack to achieve this; a simple recording of Zoom or Around calls, capturing participants' screens while they respond to questions, can suffice. However, making modest investments in research tools that facilitate unmoderated testing, such as clippings, highlights, and IA summaries, can significantly enhance its synthesis and scalability.
🔐 3. Take the ethical considerations seriously considering particularly in terms of user consent, data privacy, and the responsible use of participant data.
Non-tangible effects of conducting research:
💸 1. Shifting the conversation from opinionated design to data-driven decisions, reducing the need for costly, blind iterations of unvalidated launches.
